The Panama City Police Department is the largest municipal law enforcement agency in Bay County Florida. The department employees 136 people, 90 being sworn law enforcement officers. The agency responds to an average of 40,000 calls for service per year. All entry level sworn positions are that of a patrol officer. For the first 12 weeks after hire, new officers are assigned to the Field Training Officer (FTO) program. Upon successful completion of the FTO program, officers will be assigned to a patrol squad and given beat responsibilities.

The diversity of services provided by the department offer many opportunities for officers, which include specialized training, lateral assignments to one of many specialty areas, as well as timely promotional opportunities.

Upon completion of 3 years continuous service with the department, an officer will become eligible to compete in the promotional process. The process consists of the submission of a resume, a written test, and an oral board.

To be eligible to compete for sergeant, an officer must have completed 3 years continuous service as an officer.
